植物光呼吸作用是無用的碳循環嗎?甘油酸轉運蛋白 NPF8.4 之研究發現光呼吸作用在「氮」循環上的新角色

氮和碳是植物中最重要的兩種元素,需要維持平衡以有效地促進植物生長,了解植物如何在碳和氮含量之間取得平衡,以及植物如何因應氮缺乏環境,是植物生物學領域的重要問題,也是提高作物產量上的重要課題。我們發現氮缺乏會誘導光呼吸作用以幫助植物渡過缺氮的逆境,與胺基酸之間的轉換,而甘油酸轉運蛋白 NPF8.4負責在氮缺乏環境下,將光呼吸作用碳代謝中間物甘油酸送進液泡中隔離,以降低碳的代謝,並維持細胞內碳和氮含量的平衡。研究顯示,光呼吸作用在氮之代謝循環中具有新的功能。此研究近期已刊登於國際期刊《自然植物》(Nature Plants)。
